Christianity in Today’s World

Imagine going to a business conference and they open in prayer. It is not one specifically for Christians, but the organizers want to set a certain tone for the event so they decide to start with a prayer to help everyone focus.

To many people that would seem really weird.

The other day I opened an email talking about a women’s event, primarily for business women, entrepreneurs, and they are starting the event with a meditation and intention setting.

To many people, this seems more acceptable. But why?

Personally, as a Christian, I am hesitant in going just because of that.

Why does a business event need to begin with this? I also think it is only women’s events that do this. I rarely see events that are open to everyone start with something like a meditation and intention setting.

Is that because more women are open to more New Age-type activities, like intention setting, vision boards, etc.

Many I am being influenced as I have seen too many videos from former witches, satanists and New Agers about the evil intent behind so much of this type of activity.  I hear these people and their warnings and wonder why still so many people do them without thought. Christians are so exposed to this type of activity that we don’t think about the cost, the effect it may have on us, and those around us.

Yoga is one example. I am still torn on this one. Many of the moves/positions are actually very helpful for the body. At the same time, they are based on prayers to other deities.

Intention Setting is another great example. This could also include the vision boards that people put together. This seems to be about manifesting what we want, not asking God what He wants for us.

Whatever you are doing, ask yourself what the Bible says about it. It always comes down to that. Focus on the truth of the Word, not the word of the World.

If you want to find out more information from former witches, satanists or new agers, there are a few key people I would recommend. On Facebook and YouTube, check out Craft to Christ. She is a former witch who shares her experiences about dealing with demons but also what to avoid. Ryan Miller has done a couple interviews on his YouTube channel with a former satanist from South Africa. It was very enlightening. And Melissa Doughtery has a lot of information on her YouTube channel about new age stuff and how it is infiltrating the church.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Would a meeting starting with intention setting make you pause about attending an event? Where have you seen new agism entering the church?
